Work

From early days listening to Radio Luxembourg and messing around with crystal sets and 1 valve radios to telegraph and data transmission and finally computer together with internet.

My life so far has been dominated by a career in various phases of working in electro-mechanical, electronic, and computer industries and I have been fortunate to have played a small part in the development of the internet from its humble beginnings where the prime need was to use the telephone lines to transmit data and replace the telegraph systems of the day. This story takes the reader through various phases of this journey explaining personal events and impressions as I continued to be swept up in the developments of technology from early childhood until today when I am fast approaching my 82nd birthday and continue to be fascinated by advances in science and technology however I must confess I struggle somewhat when it comes to quantum computing. Perhaps my brain is too hardwired to grasp the basics or as Feydman said to his students commencing a quantum mechanics course with him. “I am going to explain the world of quantum science and if you say you understand it then you haven’t been attentive to the lesson”. Perhaps this also indicates me reaching the end of the road for learning in general.

If I had to sum up my life journey and the various segments with many employers I could say it was the quest by these companies to send and receive ever-increasing amounts of voice and data between geographically diverse locations which drove my career.
